Local Flavor
Local Markets:
Horrocks- Just put in a new frozen food section. They have Amy’s meals, so yummy. Their selection is a little better than Meijer’s, but they run about a dollar more. We’re a big fan of their fresh “Horrocks Own” salsa, and the fresh flower prices are unbeatable. (The gift department is dangerous at Horrocks. I want it all.)
GB Russo and Son just expanded. Their beer selection is growing! There one of the few places you can get real-sized, fresh cannoli in Grand Rapids, and they have a line of frozen pasta products I really want to try.
Kingma’s Market doesn’t have a website of it’s own yet. Someone correct me if Google has failed. I haven’t been here in a while, but back when I was a carnivore I could eat their lemon-pepper chicken lunchmeat for days. Kingma’s also introduced me to Havarti cheese. (I was in college! I didn’t know!)
Meijer- Really, what more could you ask for? The money someone in Indiana spends at a their local Meijer comes right back to Grand Rapids, Michigan. It may not feel like it, but when you shop Meijer, you really are shopping locally, and helping our community.
