I ventured into the world of sushi tonight. I had the fish guy cut strips of tuna, and served that alone as sashimi, wrapped in rolls, and with some veggies wrapped the same way. I need to work on spreading the (very) sticky rice more thinly, and smushing everything together a little more tightly.

It was the yum.

My Catholic school education at times seems lacking in real world knowledge. Sometimes I read a word and don’t know how to say it. For example, Sisters Theresa and Judith failed to teach me the correct pronunciation of the word “shiv.” Like drive with a “sh” sound at the beginning, not a “d”? Like sheep with an “f” instead of a “p”? Actually, you say it like “shit” but with a v sound at the end:
“Shit, that guy has a shiv!”
Someone even devoted a design post to the shiv, in case you pictured them wrong.
I always thought of

and didn’t think about the fact that they wouldn’t be shiny and silver, and prisoners probably don’t have unlimited access to surgical instruments.

I was challenged by Fuzzypeaches, aka The Working Woman to do a top 5 post about anything at all. To keep with the informational aspect (gosh, I hope you can tell that’s what I’m going for…) of the blog, I’ll list my top 5 favorite online news outlets. FYI, “news” may be pushing it a little, so maybe we’ll call them current event updater things.
Jezebel Celebrity, Sex, Fashion for women. Without editing. I think of this as FARK minus misogyny.
The Consumerist Shoppers bite back. If you pay for things, you need this website.
FARK It’s not news, It’s FARK.com
WOOD TV (West Michigan local news, a little trashy, but they get the job done, plus I like typing WOOD in my browser at work. Makes me feel a little naughty.)
BBC World News For a fair and balanced look at world news. They even have a section for the Americas. It’s good to get an outside perspective.
If you’ve had a chance to check these out, or know one that should be on my list, let me know in the comments.
Oops, did you not catch the part that this was a challenge? Your turn! List any top five, and leave your blog address in the comments.

Jared woke up up last night to ask me if I was shaking the bed. I said no, He said it must have been the dog, and we went back to bed.
I told Clapton this morning that other dogs had been alerting their owners, and he needs to work a little harder to earn his keep.

Is it too early to post about something that is completely out of character? If you don’t know me, will you assume that what I’m about to share makes me someone I’m not?
Last night, I did something I’ve never done before.
Jared’s crying because no, it’s not that.
I finished an entire video game. It wasn’t even a quick one. I (according to the handy-dandy couner that keeps track of how long you’ve been playing) spent almost 4 days of my life playing a video game.
And now I have nothing to do.

A subject near and dear to my heart. I worked in two coffee shops (this one was known as Gold Coffee while I was there) (this one didn’t have wifi yet…)when I was in college, and may have married this guy for free lattes when we visit the inlaws.
Anyway. On Fridays before work and on Saturdays before we take the beast to the dog park we stop by the Bagel Beanery (the one on Breton and 28th, though, not the CP location) for a egg and cheese bagel and a cup of delicious sugared up coffee.
It’s delish.
But, on weekdays that aren’t Friday, it takes just a little too long to run inside (they don’t have a drive though) so I’ve been looking for an alternative. Recently I’ve been feeding my vice with Micky D’s. Their coffee is really pretty good. I order a large coffee with 5 creams and 5 sugars, and can be on my way in practically no time at all, but there’s a problem: my coffee is sometimes missing either 5 of my creams, or 5 of my sugars, and since I don’t take my first sip of coffee until i get to work, I’ve had to sneak down to the cafeteria at my place of employment to swipe some of theirs. I’m torn. McDonalds has cheap, good coffee (and I don’t have to carry cash, which is the main reason I don’t get my WHOLE coffee, joe and all, at the aforementioned cafeteria) but they keep screwing it up. I don’t think it tastes good without the boatload of cream (or milk, whatever) and sugar.
I’ll let you know what I decide to do.

My poor pooch. Clapton had an appointment for his yearly shots, with Dr. Bob, but we ended up taking him in a week early because the poor guy was shaking his head all the time, and we’ve been though the ear infection thing before. Turns out this time it’s a yeast infection, and he’s got three different kinds of ear drops that each have to be administered twice a day. He’s getting to be so patient during the whole thing, we don’t even have to bribe him with treats anymore, although he does get a whole bunch at the end of the deal, you can see that all the medicine has been dripping down into his throat and he has to taste it, and this stuff doesn’t smell like it tastes good at all.
