I took the dog out for a walk about a week ago.
“Go potty” I said. He peed.
“Go poopy” I said. He pooped. (He really does do these things on command)
I’m on my way to work, and I feel something. A quick check of the mirrors assures me I won’t be pointed and laughed at. I reach for the offending booger.
Oh my god, what is that smell?!
There were the remnants of the poopy pick up, jammed under my pointer finger.
Ladies and gentleman: DON’T PICK YOUR NOSES.
A week later my husband called. He had done the exact same thing, and suffered the same consequences. Lesson learned.

Mmm… Artichokes (wow, they have an entire advisory board) and Asparagus (Holy smokes, there’s an advisory board for asparagus, too, and it’s in Michigan!). Both are delish veggies that are really, really easy to prepare as appetizers, or, I suppose the asparagus could be served as a side. Also, you eat both with your fingers, so they’re really fun “getting to know you” foods.
First up, the artichoke. I had only had my first bit of artichoke oh, about 2 weeks ago, but it was so yummy I thought i’d make it for an Easter appetizer.
Pick an artichoke (I got mine at Horrocks) that doesn’t have a lot of give when you press on the outer leaves. Chop off about a quarter of the top of the artichoke, so you get rid of the pointy scary part, then chop off the stem right up to the bottom layer of leaves, or a little above, and make sure it will sit up on the stem and not fall over. I took off a couple of the darker leaves around the outside of the artichoke too, just to pretty it up. Set it in a pot with an inch or inch of a half of water (your pot will need to be covered, so make sure it’s tall enough to have the lid on when the artichoke is sitting in there, then put the lid on), turn on the burner, and let it go for 30 minutes. Check it about 20 minutes in and see if you need to add more water, I poured in another cup or so to be safe and called it good.
Melt a half a stick or so of salted butter in the microwave, press one clove of garlic into the melted stuff, stir it around, and you’ve got a really easy sauce.
Tear off one of the outer leaves, dip the non pointy end into the butter, and scrape the itty-bitty bit of artichoke meat off with your front teeth. Continue with this messy endeavor until you run into a whole bunch of sharp little hairs. Scrape these off until you hit the delicious heart, cut it into a couple pieces, dip those into the butter, eat, and you’re done. It’s really not as scary as a raw artichoke looks.
Asparagus
Yum.
It’s one of my favorite vegetables, and it’s even easier to prepare then the artichoke. As a quick note, if you’re keeping it in your fridge overnight before you prepare it, leave it in the neat bunch it comes in and prop it in some water to keep the stalks perky.
When you’re ready to go, chop off about an inch and a half or two inches of the thick end of the stalks, put a couple tablespoons of olive oil into a pan with oh, couple shakes of salt, throw in your asparagus, and stir it around until it starts to bend when you’re pushing it around with your spatula. If you’re serving it as an appetizer, throw it on a plate just like that, and tell your guests they aren’t allowed to use forks. If you’re going for a side dish, toss in a handful of slivered almonds when the stalks just start to get a little bendy, and it will spice up the presentation a little, not to mention chasing the slivered almonds around with a fork is always a nice way to distract yourself if your dinner guest is telling that same boring story he told at dinner last time.

The plans are made, and too bad for you, you will have to wait until Sunday to find out what Liz and I are planning for Jason and Jared’s birthdays that we are celebrating on Saturday.
Happy St. Patty’s day. My name is Erin, thanks to my Irish mother. Unlucky me, I didn’t get her pretty red hair.
This was random.
Oooh, I know. I’ll take the Valium in preparation for tomorrow and continue the saga of The Dentist.
Bbiab with drugs.

A subject near and dear to my heart. I worked in two coffee shops (this one was known as Gold Coffee while I was there) (this one didn’t have wifi yet…)when I was in college, and may have married this guy for free lattes when we visit the inlaws.
Anyway. On Fridays before work and on Saturdays before we take the beast to the dog park we stop by the Bagel Beanery (the one on Breton and 28th, though, not the CP location) for a egg and cheese bagel and a cup of delicious sugared up coffee.
It’s delish.
But, on weekdays that aren’t Friday, it takes just a little too long to run inside (they don’t have a drive though) so I’ve been looking for an alternative. Recently I’ve been feeding my vice with Micky D’s. Their coffee is really pretty good. I order a large coffee with 5 creams and 5 sugars, and can be on my way in practically no time at all, but there’s a problem: my coffee is sometimes missing either 5 of my creams, or 5 of my sugars, and since I don’t take my first sip of coffee until i get to work, I’ve had to sneak down to the cafeteria at my place of employment to swipe some of theirs. I’m torn. McDonalds has cheap, good coffee (and I don’t have to carry cash, which is the main reason I don’t get my WHOLE coffee, joe and all, at the aforementioned cafeteria) but they keep screwing it up. I don’t think it tastes good without the boatload of cream (or milk, whatever) and sugar.
I’ll let you know what I decide to do.

My poor pooch. Clapton had an appointment for his yearly shots, with Dr. Bob, but we ended up taking him in a week early because the poor guy was shaking his head all the time, and we’ve been though the ear infection thing before. Turns out this time it’s a yeast infection, and he’s got three different kinds of ear drops that each have to be administered twice a day. He’s getting to be so patient during the whole thing, we don’t even have to bribe him with treats anymore, although he does get a whole bunch at the end of the deal, you can see that all the medicine has been dripping down into his throat and he has to taste it, and this stuff doesn’t smell like it tastes good at all.

But I love catching Wikipedia before the mods do. (I claim no responsibility for the tags. I just got lucky on the draw.)

Oh, Hesperia, my home and native land.
I told a co-worker that Jared and I were going “Up North” this weekend, and she informed me that Hesperia is not far enough away to be “Up” North. I guess I think of North as a direction, not a location.
